Why did the democrats hold a 14-hour filibuster against 1964 Civil Rights Act?

The civil rights act was not popular with democrats because most are racist. After the democrats saw the goldmine in votes, they sold themselves as the party for the black. The face is they still keep black in poverty by creating a "dependent mentality" with "entitlements" and deceit. The black man is the lowest on the income range after 50 years of "help" from the so-called party of the little guy. THe super rich elitist democrats have to keep the dependency mind-set in play to ure there will be elected.
