This is for anyone that knows a thing about becoming an officer?

I'm currently a senior in college majoring in Criminal Justice. I'm shipping late October for basic but I was wondering when i should let my CO know that I have dreams of becoming an officer. I will start drilling with them next month and I was wondering if I should let them know before or after basic. Also, I have 85 college credits and was considering doing ROTC smp but was advised by one of the cadets that it will be too late to gain any good leadership experience. I want to become a potent officer that understands both the enlisted personnel needs and the aspect of the officers. What would be best for me? OCS, direct commission or ROTC SMP?
